Dr. Kshitij Kumar Singh

Dr. Kshitij Kumar Singh is an Assistant Professor at Campus Law Centre (CLC), Faculty of Law, University of Delhi (DU), and the faculty convener IPR Society, CLC, DU. He is the CeBIL Visiting Scholar (Spring 2022) at the University of Copenhagen, Faculty of Law. He earned his LL.M. and PhD degrees from Banaras Hindu University and received Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship Asia-Pacific 2010. As a Visiting Researcher, he visited the Faculty of Law, University of Western Ontario, Canada, in 2009 and 2010. He is a collaborator at the esteemed international group Genetic Discrimination Observatory, McGill University, Canada (https://gdo.global/en/gdo-team).

His primary area of interest is intellectual property and biotechnology law, particularly ethical, legal and policy issues relating to biomedical technology. He published extensively on biotechnology and IP law with esteemed publishers, including Oxford, Edward Elgar, Cambridge, Elsevier and Springer Nature. He recently published an edited volume on “Relevance of Duties in the Contemporary World-With Special Emphasis on Gandhian Thought”(Springer 2023). He published his first book, “Biotechnology and Intellectual Property Rights: Legal and Social Implications” in 2015 (Springer). In 2020, he published another edited volume, “Policy Issues in GM Crops: A Global Perspective,” with Academic Press Elsevier. He is working on his next book project titled “Legal and Policy Framework of Precision Medicine” (Springer 2023-24). He also published numerous articles, book chapters, reviews and policy briefs on intellectual property and biotechnology law.

He participated as a resource person/panellist/invited speaker to international and national forums in workshops, conferences, seminars and government consultative groups on IP and biomedical law (viz.  University of Copenhagen, Faculty of Law, Denmark; University of York, Global Strategy Lab, Canada; McGill University, Centre of Genomics and Policy, Canada; Texas A&M University, USA; University of Utah, Faculty of Law, USA; FICCI, ONGC, RIS, RGNIIPM, IP Office India, DIPP/DPIIT Govt. of India, Ministry of Commerce & Industry). On 18th December 2021, he was conferred with the “International Teaching Excellence Award 2021 in Intellectual Property Law” by the Center for Professional Advancement (A Unit of IMRF registered with Govt. of India NITI Aayog).

Area of Interest: Intellectual Property Law, Biotechnology Law, Legal and policy aspects of precision/personalised medicine, biopharmaceuticals and antimicrobial resistance, legal philosophy.
